Whitefield Woods

Last Sunday 31st May Lyn and Gary made a trip out to Whitehouse Wood to meet our Treasurer, Alan, and his wife Joy.

As some of you will know their son, Paul, suffered a tragic accident in the wood back in January, and lost his life. Alan and Paul had been working in the wood together for over three years and both Alan and Joy are continuing the work that was started, in a tribute to Paul.

It’s a lovely place, very peaceful. We had a distanced cup of tea (and a biscuit) and a good natter. There’s a lovely shed and Alan showed us around the pathways they have made. Over 50 sycamore trees have been felled, and loads of ivy removed. Joy has made sure Paul’s favourite flowers are on show.

There’s a lot of heavy work going on, Joy certainly does her share! She has also made two signs, one announcing Whitehouse Woods and another over the shed - Paul’s Place

They have cleared a space at the top where they’d like to plant some fruit trees. Alan has to put a plan in each year, for approval.

There’s still a lot of work to be done, but it’s a labour of love.
